Ahmedabad–Dholera Expressway: Route, Cost & Status 2025
Overview
The Ahmedabad Dholera Expressway is a new Greenfield highway being built in Gujarat. It will link Ahmedabad to Dholera Smart City through a 109-kilometer route made entirely from the ground up. The expressway is set up for fast travel, with a top speed of 120 km/h. When it opens, the trip that now takes more than two hours will drop to just 40–45 minutes. This project is an important route to help Dholera grow as a planned smart city and make it easier to reach from Ahmedabad. The expressway is expected to launch in May 2025. Cutting down travel time and boosting access will help drive real estate and push infrastructure growth in the area.
Route Overview
The Ahmedabad–Dholera Expressway begins at the SP Ring Road in Sarkhej, Ahmedabad. It passes through multiple villages and finishes at Adhelai in Bhavnagar district.
Along the way, the road passes:
- Sindhrej
- Vejalaka
- Pipli
- Ambli
- Adhelai
This route forms part of NH-751, also called the Sarkhej to Dholera highway.

Timeline of the Project
Here is how the project developed over time:
- 2010: The idea for the expressway was first proposed.
- 2019: The project received official approval.
- 2020: Land acquisition was completed.
- 2021: Construction work began on all four packages.
- 2025: As of early 2025, the expressway is over 91% complete and expected to open by May 2025.
Construction Packages
The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) split the project into four construction packages. Each section was given to a different contractor to speed up the work.
